All this
composition emanates from a unique four-note association with a symetrical
aspect : E - A - B b - E b.
These notes may appear in the low, medium or high register as well, and
be arranged in any order. Besides their harmonic role, they have a polar
function and support the whole form.
Displayed at the beginning as the outline of a melody, enriched with a
rhythm, they look like an incantatory song starting. From the initial
cell, musical lines developp in an almost vocal way. They are often extended
by echoes, and generate resoundings.
The piece, from this simple material, unfolds in a series of short variations,
while one can remark many contrasts of register and quality in tone, frequent
irregular divisions, and sometimes the piling up of several different
beatings.
This work was composed between July 2008 and February 2009, at Ludovic
Laurent-Testoris' request, for the Opus Neuf Ensemble and his conductor,
Mathilde Vittu.
